VHS Videos: Eddie Izzard - Glorious Video

Having seen "Definite Article," and his one-man NYC show "Dress to Kill" twice, I rather enjoyed "Glorious". Although DA is one of Izzard's best, and includes the classic moment of Mother Nature teaching sex to animals, Glorious has the beautiful "Covered in Bees" riff. Not to mention Izzard's take on the bible is one of the best I've heard so far. True, Glorious is not one of his best, but it is the only one of his videos available in American VHS format (other than bootlegs you can maybe convince your friend to get). And as to continuity of thought, I've never found Izzard big on that, it's jsut that he's so full of digressions and random leaps of logic and flights of fancy that he's delightful.

The one low point in the video is the end of the second set (About the airplane). But right after it is the fantastic bit about computers. END

"Glorious", while not quite as even as "Dressed", still left me in tears. The show begins with a Eddie's take on the book of Genesis, then travels on towards the Trojan horse ("Bye! Well done! Here's a horse for you..per usual..Bye!"), takes a hard left into the British Monarchy, shower water temperature and baboons in mime, before ending up in the book of Revelations. And, as a previous reviewer noted, the encore is probably the funniest 8 minutes of comedy I have seen in a long while.

I ordered this video last weekend, received it Friday and have watched it twice so far. It is well worth the money for the newer fan (like myself), and I'm sure that seasoned Izzard fans will love it even more.
